Rajya Sabha passed the triple talaq Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Bill

31 July 2019 Current Affairs: The Rajya Sabha passed the triple talaq Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019. The bill makes the declaration of triple talaq means the police can arrest an accused without a warrant. It is the government’s attempt to protect the rights of married Muslim women.

Provisions of the Bill:

The Bill makes the instant triple talaq a criminal offence. It provides a jail term to a Muslim man for the crime that prohibits divorce by pronouncing talaq thrice in one go.If the woman misuses the law, the man should have the right to appeal.

Indian Federation of Sports Gaming appoints Justice A K Sikri as ombudsman

31 July 2019 Current Affairs: Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG), country’s self-regulatory industry body for the online fantasy sports gaming sector announced the appointment of Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri as its ombudsman and ethics officer.

Justice A.K. Sikri responsible for investigating queries/complaints raised by the users of the online fantasy sports gaming platforms.

The strategic council, resolve disputes brought forward regarding binding rules or financial discrepancies as well as steer hearings and make announcements for smooth operation and ease of functioning.

Sikri served as a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and was recently appointed as a judge in the Singapore International Commercial Court.  Justice Sikri several eminent positions.

He retired as a senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of India on 6 March 2019. He has also served as a Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Acting Justice of the High Court of Delhi.

Tamil Nadu girl won gold medal in World Deaf Youth Badminton Championship

Tamil Nadu girl Jerlin Anika won the gold medal in the World Deaf Youth Badminton Championships.The competition is held in Taipei last week. Anika bagged four medals in the championship, including the gold, two silver, and one bronze.

Anika is a tenth standard student in the Avvaiyar government in Madurai. The daughter’s performance is a matter of pride for India and Tamil Nadu. It is a matter of pride for Tamil Nadu.

Jagdeep Dhankar takes oath as West Bengal Governor

Jagdeep Dhankhar a former Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. He is a supreme court lawyer sworn in as the 28th governor of West Bengal. The function carried out at the Raj Bhavan, Kolkata.The function in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, state ministers, including urban development minister Firhad Hakim and finance minister Amit Mitra, and other dignitaries. He was administered oath by the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court TBN Radhakrishnan.

Reliance Jio overtakes Vodafone Idea network and became India s Largest Telecom Operator

31 July 2019 Current Affairs: Reliance Jio overtook Vodafone-Idea to become India’s leading telecom operator. While the monthly subscriber report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).The news comes from data collated off the quarterly financial reports furnished by Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea, India’s three leading telecom operators. Bharti Airtel disclosed through TRAI its user base of 320.4 million users while enduring a rough quarter of high subscriber churn rate (subscribers unsubscribing from the network against new subscriptions). Jio’s recently disclosed Q1 FY20 financial report showed 331.3 million subscribers in its network.

Vodafone-Idea’s financial report for the same quarter, it has come to light that the operator group lost 14.1 million in Q1 FY20, declining from the industry-topping 334.1 million subscribers as of March 2019, to stand at 320 million subscribers.

 

Dalilah Muhammad set new world record in the m hurdles womens athletics at the U S Championships athletics

American Athlete Dalilah Muhammad set new world record in the 400m hurdles women’s athletics at the U.S. Championships athletics on 28 July. She colcked 52.20sec. The previous world record was set at 52.34 sec by Russia’s Yuliya Pechonkina in 2003. Other Winners: Women’s 3,000m steeplechase: Emma Coburn won first and clocked 9min 25.63 seconds.

Indian Navy ship LCU L was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam

PNB Housing Finance raises mn from World Bank s IFC

July 2019 Current Affairs: India is working with Japan to make key technical changes in the bullet trains that are expected to run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 2023 so that they can handle extreme heat and high levels of pollution, according to officials familiar with the matter. National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) is executing the project linking the capitals of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

They believe the trains will have to be customized for Indian conditions so that they don’t break down due to heat and dust. The trains that run in Japan are built to handle the outside temperature of up to 35 degrees Celsius.

NITI Aayog partners with WhatsApp to promote women entrepreneurs

30 July 2019 Current Affairs: NITI Aayog and Facebook-owned WhatsApp under the aegis of its Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) announced a partnership to support the growth of a robust ecosystem to promote women entrepreneurs in India.

WhatsApp mainly collaborated with NITI Aayog announce an annual calendar of events aimed at capacity building of women entrepreneurs and develop specific programmes. The main aim is to address the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.

This initiative would target the registered users of WEP. WhatsApp partner with the Women Transforming India (WTI) Awards 2019, flagship initiative of NITI Aayog.  WhatsApp decided to provide support amounting to $100,000 to WTI winners.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Fagu Chauhan sworn as new Bihar Governor

Fagu Chauhan, a six-time member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. He was sworn in as the 29th Governor of Bihar. He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of the Patna High Court Amreshwar Pratap Shahi. Fagu Chauhan won the assembly elections in 1996 and 2002. Mr Chauhan won for the fifth time in May 2007 on the BSP symbol he joined the BJP and won the assembly election for the sixth time from the same seat in March 2017. The function took place at the Raj Bhavan.

They will provide end-to-end, real-time, 24/7 cyber security monitoring and protection services to support European and global businesses on their digital transformation journey. They including security monitoring, management and remediation, threat hunting, security analytics, incident discovery, and response will be delivered by certified and highly skilled cyber security professionals. The services offered comply with country-specific regulatory requirements.

Centre to conduct the 22nd National Conference on e Governance

The Centre is to organize the 22nd National Conference on e-Governance 2019 on 8-9th August, 2019 at Shillong, Meghalaya. For the first time ever, the event is being organized in North-Eastern region of the country. The Conference will be co-ordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) with Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India and the State Government of Meghalaya.

Reserve Bank of India fines Rs lakh fine on Mobikwik Hip Bar for violating norms

31 July 2019 Current Affairs: The Reserve Bank of India imposed a total penalty of around Rs 25 lakh on two online payment solutions providers One Mobikwik Systems and Hip Bar.

Mobikwik Systems Private Limited slapped a fine of Rs 15 lakh while Hip Bar Pvt Ltd faced a fine of Rs 10.85 lakh.

These two prepaid payment instrument (PPI) issuers levied monetary penalty for non-compliance of regulatory guidelines.
