India topped the 2019 ISSF Rifle Pistol World Cup

India topped the ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup 2019. India ended their campaign at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup with a total of four medals, three golds, and a silver. China was on the second position with 5 medals including 2 gold. The event was held in Beijing, China.

Divyansh Panwar and Anjum Moudgil had won the first medal for India at the Beijing ISSF World Cup after clinching gold in 10m Air Rifle Mixed event. Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Choudhary won the gold medal in 10m Air Pistol Mixed event.

Economist Intelligence Unit set to bring down Indias growth outlook for 2019-20

Both Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) earlier this month cut their 2019-20 growth projection for India to 7.2 per cent from 7.4 per cent earlier, blaming rising risks to global economic growth as well as weakening domestic investment activity.

In India, growth is projected to pick up to 7.3 per cent in 2019 (2019-20) and 7.5 per cent in 2020, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in its World Economic Outlook report which is a downward revision in its India growth forecasts of 20 basis points each in 2019-20 and 2020-21 from its outlook released in January.


RDAI forms 13 member panel to review microinsurance framework

Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has set up a 13 member committee under IRDAI Executive Director Suresh Mathur to review the regulatory framework on microinsurance & recommend measures to increase the demand for such products. The committee has been formed in the backdrop of a less-than-desired offtake of microinsurance products despite their inherent benefits.

Former Indian footballer Pungam Kannan passed away

Former Indian footballer Pungam Kannan passed away due to prolonged illness. He was 80 years old. Kannan is survived by his wife Antoinette and two daughters.  Kannan played 14 matches for India & was the former Mohun Bagan & East Bengal forward. He won Santosh Trophy for Bengal twice in a row (1971-73) and was the top-scorer. He was known as the ‘Pele of Asia’.

India-Japan join hands for polishing technicians in manufacturing sector

Japan partnered with India for polishing technicians in the manufacturing sector

Japan’s Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu inaugurated the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM), a residential skill training centre at Andhra Pradesh.

JIM is part of a Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme initiated by the Government of Japan in India under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in 2016 to impart training to 30,000 Indian youth in manufacturing soft skills.

Several Japanese companies are collaborating in this initiative to create a pool of skilled manpower for manufacturing units in India.Manufacturing in India emerged as one of the high growth sectors in India.

It makes the software giant only the third publicly-traded company in history to reach the threshold after Apple and Amazon passed it in 2018. Microsoft’s current valuation also means that it has again taken over Apple as the world’s most valuable company.

India has raised its import duty on wheat to 40 percent

India has raised its import duty on wheat to 40% from 30% to support local farmers. India is the world’s No. 2 producer of the grain. Local wheat prices have fallen over 11% in 2019 due to ample supply from last year’s crop and forecasts of record output. The hike in duty is likely to make imports of wheat unviable for flour mills even after recent declines in global prices, potentially dragging further on global grain markets.

Bahrain won 11 gold and topped the 23rd edition of the Asian Athletics Championships

The 2019 Asian Athletics Championships was the 23rd edition of the Asian Athletics Championships. The 4-day event was held at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. It was held from 21st April to 24th April 2019.

Bahrain topped the medal tally with 11 Golds and a total of 22 medals followed by China with a total of 29 medals (9 Gold) and Japan with a total of 18 medals (5 Gold). India clinched the 4th spot with 3 golds. India bagged 3 gold, 7 Silver and 7 Bronze with a total of 17 medals.
