India ranks 44 in the World digital competitiveness rankings
According to a global report, India has ranked 44th in World digital competitiveness rankings in 2019. India stood 48th rank in the year 2019. India has made various improvement in terms of knowledge and future readiness to adopt and explore digital technologies.
Also, according to the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2019 (WDCR), with great advancement in the technology sub-factor level, India holds the first position in telecommunications investment.

Centre launched the first Indigenous Fuel Cell System on CSIR Foundation Day
27 September 2019 Current Affairs: Centre unveiled the first Indigenous High-Temperature Fuel Cell System on the occasion of CSIR Foundation Day at New Delhi. It was unveiled by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. It was developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in partnership with Indian industries under India’s flagship program named New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI). The Cell would replace Diesel Generating (DG) sets and help reduce India’s dependence on crude oil. The Fuel Cells is in line with India’s mission of replacing diesel with green and alternate fuels
Vikram had hard landing, NASA releases high-resolution images of Chandrayaan 2 landing site
27 September 2019 Current Affairs: The United States premier space agency NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander had a hard landing on the Moon’s surface. While releasing high-resolution images captured by its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) during a lunar flyby.
The Vikram lander attempted a soft landing on a small patch of lunar highland smooth plains between Simpelius N and Manzinus C craters on September 7 contact with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The agency verify the exact location of the spacecraft. The images captured by LROC also do not pinpoint Chandrayaan 2 Vikram lander’s location but it is possible that it is hiding in shadow. India’s first attempt at a soft landing on the Moon. The site was located about 600 kilometers from the south pole in a relatively ancient terrain.
The LRO passed over the landing site on September 17 and acquired a set of high-resolution images of the area; so far the LROC team has not been able to locate or image the lander.
Infosys won the United Nations Global Climate Action Award
27 September 2019 Current Affairs: Infosys won the prestigious United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the Climate Neutral Now category. Infosys, a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting, is the only corporate from India to earn the award. The award recognized the company’s efforts to combat climate change. The award will be presented to Infosys at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) which has been scheduled to be held on December 2019 in Santiago, Chile.
Indo Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise Kazind
27 September 2019 Current Affairs: Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2019 between India and Kazakhstan conducted at Pithoragarh from 02 to 15 October 2019.
The main exercise will comprise of nearly 100 soldiers from both Indian and Kazakhstan Army who would be sharing their experience gained during conduct of various counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations in the past.
It is the fourth edition of an annual event which is conducted alternatively in Kazakhstan and India.

Ministry of Railways holds a Presentation Session with Examination Conducting Agencies
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: Railway Recruitment Control Board got a presentation session with major Examination Conducting Agencies (ECA)
Aim: To assess their strength and potential to hold large recruitment examinations for Indian Railways. Indian Railways is the largest employer of manpower, has given over 1.5 lakh employment and the almost equal number is in the pipeline. Railway Examinations invite a large number of applications running into lakhs and more. Last year, one of the examinations had about 1.89 crore candidates which is a record.
The large scale examinations successfully examination conducting agencies are selected after minutely scrutinising their credentials and potentials. Indian Railways held a presentation session with Examination Conducting Agencies for which notification was issued a week back. Agencies from all over India participated. The presentation was followed by interactive session with Chairmen of Railway Recruitment Boards who were also present during the session. The Indian Railways is conducting Agency for holding the forth-coming examinations of Non-Technical Popular Categories and Miscellaneous Categories to be held in the coming months.
PNB launched Preventive Vigilance portal
Punjab National Bank (PNB) launched a Preventive Vigilance (PV) portal on 25 September. The bank conducted a meeting at the PNB Corporate Office to promote vigilance awareness. The meeting was chaired by Central Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar. Aim: The Preventive Vigilance portal aims to facilitate the bank’s staff members to check procedural lapses and promote good practices.
Bharti Airtel appoints Gopal Vittal as HR head for India, South Asia
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: Bharti Airtel has appointed Gopal Vittal as an interim chief people officer for India. The current chief people officer for India, South Asia, Gautam Anand, has resigned his position with immediate effect. Gopal Vittal is currently the CEO of the company.
Rajiva Sinha to be Appointed as New Chief Secretary of West Bengal
Rajiva Sinha will be the new chief secretary of West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Sinha is currently the additional chief secretary to the health and family welfare department. He is a 1985 batch IAS officer, was appointed the chief secretary in 2017 after the retirement of Basudeb Banerjee.
Mukesh Ambani tops the 2019 IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: The eighth IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019 was released on 25 September 2019. Reliance Industries’ Chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List. He has topped for the eighth consecutive year, with a net worth of Rs 3,80,700 crore.
The list reported that 953 individuals crossed the Rs.1,000 crore threshold to make the list. According to IIFL, the combined wealth of top 25 in the list equates to 10% of India’s GDP and that of 953 accounts for 27%.
Visa appoints PV Sindhu as its brand ambassador
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: Visa, the payment technology company, has signed up the world badminton champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu as its brand ambassador for two years. She will be promoting the brand through advertising campaigns.
Apart from this, Sindhu has become an athlete member of Team Visa for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
IAAF honoured the Indian legend PT Usha
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) honoured the former Indian athlete and Olympian PT Usha with the prestigious IAAF Veteran Pin Award. Usha received the award from the IAAF president Sebastian Coe at the 52nd IAAF conference in Doha. IAAF Veteran Pin Award recognizes the efforts of the players who have made matchless contributions to athletics.
Chinese navy launches its first amphibious assault ship
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: China launched its first amphibious assault ship which would enable ground forces to carry out attacks on the enemy territory from the sea. The ship was launched in Shanghai With a strong capacity in amphibious operations and performing a variety of tasks, the ship is independently developed by China
The ship will next undergo equipment debugging, mooring and navigational trials as planned. The ship will have a strong capability to carry out amphibious combat and other tasks, state-run China Daily said quoting a statement from the Chinese navy.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s hardware pointed out that the new ship is the first in the Type 075 class of amphibious assault ship, which is also defined as a type of landing helicopter dock. China since 2013 stepped up the development of its navy, which included building several aircraft carriers and submarines, frigates and assault ships as part of its efforts to expand its global influence.
IMF names Kristalina Georgieva as new head
26 September 2019 Current Affairs: The International Monetary Fund formally selected Kristalina Georgieva of Bulgaria as the second woman ever to lead the 189-member institution. The selection guaranteed after the global crisis lender earlier this month that Georgieva, a former World Bank CEO, was the sole candidate.In acknowledging her selection, Georgieva spoke of tempestuous times for the global economy. It is a huge responsibility to be at the helm of the IMF at a time when global economic growth continues to disappoint, trade tensions persist, and debt is at historically high levels.She inherits the helm of an institution buffeted by the rise of populism in advanced economies and escalating trade conflicts, the largest of which has been driven by the United States, the fund’s single biggest shareholder.Georgieva championed by Paris, overcame a challenge within the divided European Union from Germany which had backed former Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem.
The European led the IMF since its creation in the aftermath of World War II while the leader of the fund’s sister organization, the World Bank.
West Bengal Government To Set Up Museum At Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s House
27 September 2019 Current Affairs: West Bengal government plans to set up a museum at the north Kolkata house of 19th century social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar where he had spent the last few years of his life.
The museum will come up at Vidyasagar’s residence at Badur Bagan area where pictures and models, chronicling his life from his birth place at Birsinghpur village in Paschim Medinipur district to the house in north Kolkata.
Mr Chatterjee, who is the education minister, said this at a function after inaugurating Vidyasagar Academy at the Badur Bagan residence on the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of the educational and social reformer.
