PM Narendra Modi releases book on Former PM Chandra Shekhar

26 July 2019 Current Affairs: PM Narendra Modi released the book “Chandra Shekhar – The Last Icon of Ideological Politics”;

The book has been written by Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, and Shri Ravi Dutt Bajpai. The book release eats the Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building.

The Prime Minister presented the first copy of the book to the Vice President of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu.

Union Government approves creation of buffer stock for 40 lakh MT of sugar for 1 year

27 July 2019 Current Affairs: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA)approved the creation of a 4 million metric tonne sugar  NSE 1.00 % buffer stock for one year.

It is likely to support the industry to provide cash support to sugar mills to improve the demand-supply situation in the domestic market and the consequent support to the sugar prices.

The closing sugar stocks for SY2019 be high at around 14.5 million MT. The direct impact of this move to compensate mills for the carrying cost alone would translate into a higher PBT margin by about 1.5%-1.8%. The buffer stock creation would result in some improvement in the demand-supply situation in the domestic market.The estimated maximum expenditure for the creation of buffer stock around Rs. 1,674 crore.

Priti Patel has been appointed as the Britains first Indian origin home secretary

Priti Patel has been appointed as the Britain’s first Indian-origin home secretary which is a part of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s top team on 25 July. She will replace Pakistani-origin Sajid Javid. He has been transferred to the Treasury department as the first ethnic minority Chancellor of the Exchequer. About Priti Patel: Patel was a prominent member from the Conservative Party leadership. She was a member of the Back Boris campaign.


Boxing Legend Manny Pacquiao won WBA Super Welterweight title 2019

Manny Pacquiao(40) won the WBA (World Boxing Association) welterweight championship 2019. He defeated  Keith Thurman of US at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, United States. Two judges scored it 115-112 in favor of Pacquiao. The one judge scored it 114-113 to Thurman. The eight-division world champion Pacquiao improved to 62-7-2 score with 39 knockouts.

Indias first Dragon blood-oozing Tree discovered in Assam

26 July 2019 Current Affairs: Researcher discovers Dracaena Cambodia  A dragon tree species in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district.

Plant: It is a plant that yields a dragon’s blood.It is a bright red resin used in ancient times as a medicine, body oil, varnish, incense, and dye. The sap turns bright red after coming in contact with air.This is for the first time that a dragon tree species reported from India. In India, the Dracaena genus belonging to the family Asparagaceae It is represented by nine species and two varieties in the Himalayan region, the northeast and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

RIL became the top Indian company in the latest Fortune Global 500 list

Reliance Industries (RIL) has topped the Indian company to feature in the latest Fortune Global 500 list. RIL has moved 42 positions from its previous and has secured 106th ranking. The Indian company that stands next to RIL is the state-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). It has secured 117th rank. RIL: The profit of RIL has been increased from $62.3 billion to $82.3 billion in 2019. IOC has recorded a 17.7% growth in revenue from $65.9 billion to $77.6. 

Home Minister Amit Shah To Head Panel On Workplace Sexual Harassment

Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a panel of four cabinet ministers and he examined the ways to prevent workplace sexual harassment. The activists criticized to the official response to the #MeToo movement. The movement carried out with former junior Foreign Minister M J Akbar and Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi among dozens of high-profile men accused of sexual misconduct. The new panel includes Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury appointed PAC Chairman

26 July 2019 Current Affairs: Congress party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury appointed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The post was held by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge He recently concluded elections lost from Gulbarga constituency in Karnataka to BJP’s Umesh Jadhav. Chowdhury along with former Union Ministers Satyapal Singh and Jayant Sinha elected as the members of PAC

The other members elected to the committee from Lok Sabha are TR Baalu (DMK), Subhash Chandra Baheria, Sudheer Gupta, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Ajay (Teni) Misra, Jagadambika Pal, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Ram Kripal Yadav (all BJP), Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJD), Rahul Ramesh Shewale (Shiv Sena), Rajiv Ranjan Singh (JD-U) and Balashowry Vallabbhaneni (YSRC Party).


Union cabinet approved to dissolve NIMH and merge it with ICMR National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH)

The government has approved to dissolve National Institute of Miners’ Health (NIMH) and merge it with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH), Ahmedabad. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister. National Institute of Miners Health (NIMH) is an autonomous institute that functions under Ministry of Mines (MoM).

Ehsan Mani has been appointed as the head of ICCs influential Finance and Commercial Affairs committee

Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman Ehsan Mani has been appointed as the head of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) influential Finance & Commercial Affairs committee (F&CA). The decision regarding the appointment was announced during the International Cricket Council’s annual conference. The F&CA is one of the ICC’s most important committees, in relation to all financial and commercial matters.

Nishagandhi Sangeetha Awards conferred by Kerala Tourism

Kerala Minister of Tourism presented the inaugural Nishagandhi Sangeetha Puraskaram to musicians Parassala B. Ponnammal and T V. Gopalakrishnan in the Nishagandhi Monsoon Ragas Music Festival. Nishagandhi Sangeetha Puraskaram is Instituted by Kerala Tourism. The award carries ₹1.5 lakh in cash, citation and memento. It is instituted by Kerala Tourism.

AICTE data shows 50% of Engineering graduates receive job offers

All India Council for Technical Education declared that Engineering placements have reached a seven-year high. According to the figures, 25% of all students admitted to undergraduate. The  postgraduate engineering programs were placed in 2018-19.  The number jumps to 52% when only those who successfully completed their courses. The figures cover data from courses in 3,311 engineerings, architecture and design colleges.
