Ministry of WCD organized Poshan Maah event
25 September 2019 Current Affairs: The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) as part of the POSHAN Maah organized a one day camp in Shastri Bhavan in New Delhi. Rabindra Panwar, Secretary, Ministry of WCD inaugurated the Test, Treat and Talk (T 3) Anaemia and Defeat Diarrhoea (D 2) camp in New Delhi. The Ministry aims to create awareness regarding simple solutions to Anaemia and Diarrhoea.
The 15th Finance Commission holds meeting with the Sikkim govt
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: The 15th Finance Commission held a meeting with the Government of Sikkim. The commission headed by Chairman, Shri N.K. Singh along with its Members and senior officials held talks with the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, along with his Cabinet colleagues and senior State Government officials.
About the meeting: The meeting aimed at the welfare of the Sikkim State. It also discussed in detail all the State specific queries raised by the Chairman and Members. The State has demanded Rs.71623.97 crore to the 15th Finance Commission.
The Commission met the representatives of all the political parties in the State including Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) , Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, Sikkim Democratic Front and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha.
A Rs 1.45 trillion tax cut may undermine rate reductions in India
25 September 2019 Current Affairs: India’s $20 billion tax-cut boosts may have an unintended effect of keeping borrowing costs high. The premium of 10-year yields over the central bank’s policy rate widened to the most since April after the surprise stimulus announced Friday raised fears the government will miss its budget deficit targets. Traders say the spread offers lenders little incentive to pass on past interest rate cuts to customers.
The central bank has cut rates four times this year, banks have been reluctant to fully pass on Asia’s most aggressive easing amid a surge in bad loans. The widening spread reflects worries about the government adding to its record borrowing after the major booster.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said there were no plans to revise its borrowings of Rs 7.1 trillion for now, traders remain cautious. Standard Chartered forecasting the need for as much as Rs 800 billion ($11.3 billion) of new debt.
The tax cut, estimated to cost Rs 1.45 trillion in lost revenue, may push up the fiscal deficit to 3.9% of gross domestic product for the year to March, compared with a goal of 3.3%, according to a Bloomberg poll of economists.
Government of India has instituted Sardar Patel National Unity Award

Exercise Malabar 2019 began at the coast of Sasebo
The 23rd edition of the Trilateral Maritime exercise Malabar began on 24 September 2019 at the coast of Sasebo, Japan. The exercise involves warships and aircraft from the United States, Japan, and India. The naval exercise Malabar will be held for 10-days from 26 September to 04 October 2019.
Labour Ministry noted 8.65 percent rate of interest on EPF
25 September 2019 Current Affairs: The Labour Ministry notified 8.65% rate of interest on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) for the year 2018-19. The increased 8.65% rate is a 10 basis point (bps) increase from the 8.55% paid in 2017-18, but the same as the rate paid in 2016-17. The EPF rate was 8.8% for the year 2015-16.
Delhi State to implement Mukhyamantri Street Light Yojana
Delhi State is to implement Mukhyamantri Street Light Yojana. The announcement of the implementation of the scheme was made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Under the scheme, 2.1 lakh streetlight will be installed across the city. The scheme will be made effective from 1 November 2019.
Centre launched 2 mobile app for farmers
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: Centre has launched two mobile Apps for the farmers. The mobile applications named CHC Farm Machinery and Krishi Kisan App for Geo Tagging will give easy access to high value and technical agricultural equipment at their doorstep. The mobile app was launched by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Infosys, TCS, HDFC among 17 Indian firms in Forbes
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: The 17 Indian companies, including Infosys, TCS and HDFC named in the list of World’s Best Regarded Companies compiled by Forbes.
IT major Infosys has been ranked third in the list of World’s Best Regarded Companies, along with global payments technology company Visa and Italian car-maker Ferrari on the first and second position, respectively.
Infosys jumped to the third spot from 31st position in 2018.
The Infosys leading position headlined an Asian invasion in the rankings,” Forbes said.
The other top ten companies in the list for 2019 are : Netflix at the 4th position followed by PayPal (5), Microsoft (6), Walt Disney (7), Toyota Motor (8), Mastercard (9), Costco Wholesale (10).
Indian companies Tata Consultancy Services (22nd position) and Tata Motors (31) featured among the top 50 in the coveted list.

24 September 2019 Current Affairs: September 24, 2019 (Tuesday) marks five Earth years in the Martian Orbit for Isro’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), bringing subdued cheer at the space agency, amid a lull caused by an unsuccessful attempt at soft-landing Vikram, Chandrayaan-2’s lander on Moon.

India’s second largest railway overbridge in West Bengal
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: Indian Railways has completed the construction of the giant four-lane cable-stayed railway overbridge (RoB) at Burdwan Junction in West Bengal. The RoB, considered to be the second largest in the country will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.
India’s second largest railway overbridge – Important Things
1) The railway overbridge was completed in 197 days without affecting traffic for even a single day
2) The work on 188.43 metre cable-stayed railway overbridge was kicked off in 2012.
3) Besides having 1.5 metre-wide footpaths on each of the sides parallel to the lanes, the railway overbridge has 27.7 meters of width to accommodate vehicles on four lanes.
4) Built at a cost of ₹300 crores, the project is the result of a 50:50 partnership between the Ministry of Railways and the West Bengal government officials
5) The railway overbridge connects Burdwan town with the two sub-divisions of Kalna and Katwa and is on the Howrah–Bardhaman mainline.
RBI approves the reappointment of Shyam Srinivasan as MD & CEO of Federal Bank
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the reappointment of Shyam Srinivasan is appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Federal Bank It is effective from September 23, 2019 until September 22, 2020. He will serve the bank as the head for a decade – September 23, 2010-September 22, 2020
SEBI imposes penalty on Aurobindo Pharma
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed penalties of Rs.22.7 crore on Aurobindo Pharma and its promoters on 23 September. The penalty was laid as the company has violated the provisions of insider trading in relation to a licensing deal it had entered with Pfizer in 2009. SEBI has ordered Aurobindo and its promoters to pay the penalty within 45 days of the receipt of the order.
Lionel Messi won the best FIFA Mens Player award for the first time
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: Barcelona striker Lionel Messi won the FIFA 2019 Men’s Player of the Year 2019 award for the first time at a ceremony in Milan, Italy. Messie edged out Virgil Van Dijk, who won the UEFA player’s award in August 2019. He also won the European Golden Shoe after scoring 36 goals, the La Liga title with Barcelona and helped Argentina to bronze at 2019 Copa America.
Messi’s rival and Juventus forward Ronaldo was also shortlisted for the award. He did not attend the ceremony as he was named in FIFA’s World 11 best team along with Messi.
Both Messi and Van Dijk are now counting on the Ballon d’Or which will be announced on 2 December 2019.
RBI barred PMC Bank from doing business for six months
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) barred the Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative Bank Ltd (PMC Bank), Mumbai to carry out the majority of its routine business for 6 months.
RBI’s direction: RBI has barred the PMC Bank from carrying out its functions including granting, renewing and loans and advances, make any investments, accept fresh deposits, transactions for a period of six months.
The RBI has also restricted the PMC Bank’s depositors to withdraw more than Rs.1,000 from their savings/current/other deposit accounts. The RBI monitors banks’ health and issues such kind of directions in case of concerns over the financial health of an institution.
The regulator did not mention any specific reasons for its restrictions on PMC Bank. This announcement does not cancel the banking licence of the Bank. The restrictions will be in force for six months
ICICI to open 450 branches by next financial year
24 September 2019 Current Affairs: Private sector lender ICICI Bank is planning to open 450 branches in the forthcoming financial year. Among the planned 450 branches, 320 branches have already been added.
5000 branches: After the installation of the 320 operational branches for customers, the bank has crossed the milestone of having 5,000 branches. The branch that was opened at Thane in Maharashtra is the 5000th (milestone) branch of ICICI.
The Bank believes that a wide branch network continues to be important for retail banking. Having a large number of branches helps deepen the relationship with the customer by serving them with a wide range of products and offerings.
Greta Thunberg, 16 year old, won alternative Nobel Prize
Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg was named as one of four winners of the 2019 Right Livelihood Award. The award is also known as Sweden’s alternative Nobel Prize. She was awarded for inspiring and amplifying political demands for urgent climate action reflecting scientific facts. The award was announced by the Right Livelihood Foundation. The awardees triggered a thirst to strive for a liveable future for all on planet Earth.
NASA to pay USD 4.6 bn to buy 6 spacecraft for Artemis moon missions
25 September 2019 Current Affairs: NASA has partnered and contracted American global aerospace company Lockheed Martin to develop minimum six and as many as 12 spacecraft for its Artemis lunar exploration programme.
About the contract: NASA has designated a total of around USD 4.6 billion for six spacecraft. For the first three vehicles, the deals have been closed with $2.7 billion. An additional $1.9 billion for another three in the 2022 fiscal year. It is suspected that NASA may eventually order another 6 Orion capsules for its Artemis moon missions by 30 September 2030.
