RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya resigned

25 June 2019 Current Affairs: The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Deputy Governor Viral Acharya resigned six months before the scheduled end of his term

He returned to New York University Stern School of Business (NYU stern) as CV Starr Professor of Economics.

He submitted a letter to RBI he is unable to continue his term as a Deputy Governor of the RBI beyond July 23, 2019. He joined RBI on January 23, 2017. He leave the central bank on December 10, 2018.He is in charge of the Financial Stability Unit, Monetary Policy Department, Department of Economic and Policy Research, Financial Markets Operation Department.


RBI advises commercial banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme

25 June 2019 Current Affairs: Reserve Bank of India advised all Scheduled Commercial Banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme.

The schemes are formulated by the Indian Banks Association.

The salient features are Collateral free loans up to Rs 7.5 Lakh under the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans (CGFSEL).

No Margin for a loan up to Rs 7.50 Lakh. Repayment period of 15 years Loan up to Rs 10 lakh for study in India and up to Rs 20 lakh for study abroad.

One Year Moratorium for repayment after completion of studies in all cases.

Moratorium taking into account spells of unemployment/underemployment say two or three times during the life cycle of the loan.

World Bank approves $147 Million Loan to the Government of Jharkhand

25 June 2019 Current Affairs: The World Bank approved a $147 million loan agreement to provide basic urban services to the people of Jharkhand.

Their aim is to improve the management capacity of the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state. They focus on improving the municipal sector’s capacity to provide basic urban services. They invest in urban services such as water supply, sewerage, drainage, and urban roads.

Their main aim is to strengthen the capacity of the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO). Government of India urbanization and economic growth are interlinked and a comprehensive road map for municipal reforms through the AMRUT scheme.

Jharkhand Municipal Reform Programme to strengthen and improve urban services in a fast urbanizing state and will provide an impetus to economic growth. The components open to all 43 ULBs in the state to participate within an agreed framework under the project. 

IRSDC signed 2 MoAs to renovate 22 railway stations

24 June 2019 Current Affairs: Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) signed 2 two agreements with ‘Railway Station Redevelopment for the renovation of 22 railway stations.

IRSDC signed an agreement with MECON Limited (Formerly known as Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants Limited).

Eight railway stations including Andheri, Bandra Terminus, Ranchi, Chennai Egmore are redeveloped. IRSDC signed a MOA with two other Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) – EPIL (Engineering Projects India Limited) and Bridge & Roof

14 railway stations including Kolkata Terminal, Kanpur Central, Kalyan Junction, Ludhiana, Hyderabad and Udaipur City are renovated. CPSEs prepare detailed project reports on the development of 22 stations and develop Project Management Consultant to IRSDC to implement the redevelopment program. 

Maruti Suzuki inks partnership with BOB for dealer financing

Maruti Suzuki, an Automobile manufacturer in India signed ‘Preferred Financier’ MoU(Memorandum of understanding) with Indian multinational with Bank of Baroda(BOB) in order to improve credit for dealership inventory financing. The partnership with Bank of Baroda allows Maruti Suzuki to finance opportunities to dealers as well as customers.  The financing will work in line with the Bank of Baroda’s product program of Supply Chain Finance.

Odisha CM releases Flood Hazard Atlas for effective management of flood

25 June 2019 Current Affairs: Odisha Government released a Flood Hazard Atlas for efficient management of flood in the state.

The report was released by the Odisha Chief Minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik. It is jointly prepared by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO(Indian Space Research Organization) along with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDAMA) analyzing data relating to flood from 2001 to 2018.

Around 13.96 lakh hectares of land affected by flood every year in Odisha

Eight out of 30 districts such as Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Puri, Jajpur, Khordha, and Cuttack districts are more flood-affected districts. 77% of Bhadrak and 70% of the Kendrapara district belong to flood hazard.

Odisha made water resources department to ensure all breaches are closed and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRF) and Fire Service Organisation are prepared for rescue operations.

Indias first iron ore mine discovered in Bangladesh

Iron ore mine discovered at Isabpur village in Dinajpur. This announcement was made by the Geological Survey of Bangladesh. After the effect of extensive drilling over two months in the area. A 400-foot thick iron layer was found in Bangladesh after the result of the Geological Survey. Around 1,750 feet beneath the surface stretched over an area of 6-10 square kilometer. The percentage of iron in the mine around 65. It indicates the high quality of the ore.


Cricket Australia signs a multi-year partnership with HCL

24 June 2019 Current Affairs: Indian multinational information technology service HCL Technologies (Hindustan Computers Limited, HCL) signed a multi-year deal with Cricket Australia (CA), the administrative body of Australian Cricket.

India’s third largest sports deal, Accenture was working with Cricket Australia

A five-year deal from November 2013. HCL becomes the digital technology partner of Australia (CA)

The company will help CA more fans, cricketers, fans, employees, and volunteers through digital experience around the world.  HCL build CA’s digital products such as Cricket Australia Live App, Cricket Australia’s fan following gradually increased upto 20 million per year.

NTPC, PGCIL sign MoU to enter Power Distribution Business

Indian Public Sector Undertaking’s (PSUs) National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC Ltd) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) signed an agreement to set up National Electricity Distribution Company Limited (NEDCL). National Electricity Distribution Company by NTPC, a leading power generator, and Power Grid, which owns India’s largest power transmission network to get into consumer electricity supply business.

Indian Navy launches Operation Sankalp in Gulf of Oman

24 June 2019 Current Affairs: Indian Navy launched ‘Operation Sankalp’ in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Their main aim is to reassure safe passage of Indian flagged vessels transiting through the area. This deployment depends on the following recent maritime incidents in the region.

INS Chennai and INS Sunayna deployed in the region to undertake maritime security operations. An aerial surveillance in the area done by IN aircraft.

Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) of Indian Navy watch over the movement of ships in Gulf region.

Indian women’s hockey team won FIH Series

Indian Women’s Hockey team won the FIH (Fédération Internationale de Hockey) He defeated Japan 3-1 in the finals held at the Hiroshima Hockey Stadium, Japan. Indian team Captain Rani Rampal scored the first goal in the 3rd minute and Gurjit Kaur scored goals at the 45th and 60th minutes.  Japan’s Kanon Mori scored the goal for the team. Gurjit Kaur emerged as World No. 9 Indian team qualified for the FIH Olympic Qualifiers 2019.


Lewis Hamilton won French Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes won the French Grand Prix  It is held in Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, France  They secured 187 points.  The United Kingdom got an eighth straight win in the year 2019  It was the sixth win of the season  It is 79th of his career. He defeated Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes (Finland) secured 151 points.  Charles Leclerc of Ferrari (Monaco) got third Max Verstappen of Red Bull (Belgium) fourth.

Saudi Arabia became the first Arab country to get FATF membership

Saudi Arabia became the first Arab country to get membership of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The number of permanent members of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is 39. The membership admitted into the global money laundering after the Annual General Meeting in Orlando, Florida. FATF celebrated their 30th anniversary of its first meeting  Saudi Arabia received an invitation from FATF in 2015 and they joined as an “observer member’.

Indian Gymnast, Pranati Nayak won bronze at 2019 Asian Artistic Gymnastic Championship held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

India’s Pranati Nayak won a bronze medal at the Senior Asian Artistic Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  She is from West Bengal She got qualified for finals  She secured sixth place and came up with a score of 13.384 to win the bronze medal. She scored 13.400 and 13.367 in the first and second vault score recently.
