UN observed the Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July

19 July 2019 Current Affairs: The United Nations observed the Nelson Mandela International Day, also popularly known as Mandela Day, on 18 July every year. The United Nations instituted the day to mark the birthday of South Africa’s former president, Nelson Mandela, which falls on 18 July. It was established in the year on 2009.

The day is also observed to pay tribute to Mandela for his values, legacy and contribution to society. It acknowledges the his contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.

Theme 2019: Nelson Mandela Foundation has launched a new strategy titled “Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, to mark the tenth anniversary of the initiative” as the theme 2019. The theme focuses on five areas such as education and literacy, food and nutrition, shelter, sanitation and active citizenship.

HRD Minister releases UGC guide to student induction programme

19 July 2019 Current Affairs: Union Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ released UGC Guide to Student Induction Programme – “Deeksharambh” in New Delhi. The Deeksharambh, a guide to Student Induction Programme is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment. The institution help them build bonds with other students and faculty members. The programme engages with the new students as soon as they come into the institution.The mentoring is one of the components of Student Induction Programme and  Their main aim is to develop an everlasting bonding between the teacher and student.

Sachin Tendulkar was inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame

Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian Cricketer, was inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame. He became the sixth Indian cricketer to join the list of international players. The former South African cricketer Allan Donald was also in the list.   Indian players in the list: The Indian former cricketers in the list are Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble.

Asia has 60% of hungry people in the world

19 July 2019 Current Affairs: Asia they are 820 million people enough to eat in 2018, up from 811 million in the previous year. It is the third year of increase in a row.  This underscores the immense challenge of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger by 2030 The edition of the annual ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World’. The ‘immense challenge’ to reach the target of zero hunger more than 820 million people worldwide. There are about 820 million people to eat in 2018, up from 811 million in the previous year. Tamil Nadu to get two new districts

19 July 2019 Current Affairs: Tamil Nadu to form two new district The total number of districts in the state will be raised to 35. Tenkasi District would be carved out of Tirunelveli and Chengalpet District would be established by splitting Kanchipuram district. Tirunelveli and Kanchipuram remain vast in area and splitting them would be beneficial for better administration.  Revenue Minister R.B.Udhayakumar created a few more districts by splitting bigger revenue units is being considered.  A new district with Kumbakonam as its headquarters are announced.

Anusuiya Uikey was appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh

20 July 2019 Current Affairs: Anusuiya Uikey, a Senior  tribal BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, was appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh on 16 July. Anusuiya Uikey replaces Anandiben Patel. Anandiben Patel is currently the Governor of Madhya Pradesh as well as she holds the charge as the Governor of Chhattisgarh.

Deepika Kumari won silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games test event

Deepika Kumari won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games test event. She lost to South Korea’s An San. She was ranked fourth in the qualification round. The second seed An San produced fine shooting and secured 6-0 in the final.  Deepika has been targeting Olympic qualifications through the Asian Championships in Bangkok from November 21-29.

Sarabjot Singh won India’s ninth gold in ISSF Junior World Cup

The ISSF Junior World Cup, Sarabjot Singh scored 239.6 to bag the men’s 10m air pistol gold, country’s ninth yellow metal at the event. India both the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol crowns with 14-year-old Esha Singh winning the women’s event. India- Medals  India remain top of the medal standings. There are around nine gold, nine silver and four bronze around 22 medals India swept both the men’s and women’s 10 metres.

Tata” become India’s most valuable brand for the second straight year in 2019 the brand value of $19.6 billion. The followed by LIC(Life Insurance Corporation) (2nd )with $7.3 billion and Infosys (3rd )$6.5 billion. The  brand value of  Tata increased to 37% with $19.6 billion

It is the highest in the top 25 compared to $14.23 billion in 2018. TATA group’s brand present across autos, IT services, steel, and chemicals.

Brand Finance, calculates the value of brands based on the ‘royalty relief approach estimates likely future sales that are attributable to a brand based on the royalty rate.It also ranks brands based on its strength & performance with its competitors.

Benjamin Netanyahu becomes the longest serving Prime Minister of Israel

Benjamin Netanyahu became the longest serving Prime Minister of Israel. He overthrew the record set by David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s founding father and first leader. Netanyahu has spent 4,876 days,more than 13 years, in office as on 20 July, 2019. Netanyahu is the Israel’s youngest-ever Prime Minister as won his first election in 1996, at the age of 46.

20 July 2019 Current Affairs: Andhra Bank launched its AI(Artificial Intelligence) interactive assistant called “ABHi” at a function in Hyderabad, Telangana.

It uses new-age technologies include to understand the customer query  They fetch the relevant information from the possible knowledge base in a matter of milliseconds.

ABHi is powered by AI startup Floatbot.ai (Bangalore).They are in partnership with IT(Information Technology) company Netxcell Limited(Hyderabad).

INS Sagardhwani starts on mission Sagar Maitri

20 July 2019 Current Affairs: Marine Acoustic Research Ship (MARS), INS Sagardhwan started its two-month-long second mission Sagar Maitri from Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala.

It flagged off by Southern Naval commander Vice Admiral A.K. Chawla and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chairman G. Satheesh Reddy.  The main visit of  Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia would be initiating collaborative research programmes.

India to be free of Tuberculosis by 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a social cause or an issue of human sensitivity as a mission.  India fixed a deadline of 2025 for eradicating tuberculosis (TB) against the global deadline of 2030.  The main aim of the government is to eradicate the disease. Union Health Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministries of Defence, Railways and Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) to eliminate TB from India by 2025.

Hima Das won gold in the 200m event at a Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic

Assam’s Hima Das, the Indian Sprinter, won gold in the 200m event at a Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic on 17 July. She clocked 23.25 seconds. This is her 4th win in 15 days. VK Vismaya won the silver and clocked 23.43 seconds. Muhammad Anas won gold in men’s 400m and clocked in 45.40 seconds. Tom Noah Nirmal came second and clocked 46.59 seconds. K S Jeevan came third in 46.60 seconds and M P Jabir came fourth and clocked 47.16 seconds.
