UN observed the Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July
19 July 2019 Current Affairs: The United Nations observed the Nelson Mandela International Day, also popularly known as Mandela Day, on 18 July every year. The United Nations instituted the day to mark the birthday of South Africa’s former president, Nelson Mandela, which falls on 18 July. It was established in the year on 2009.
The day is also observed to pay tribute to Mandela for his values, legacy and contribution to society. It acknowledges the his contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.
Theme 2019: Nelson Mandela Foundation has launched a new strategy titled “Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, to mark the tenth anniversary of the initiative” as the theme 2019. The theme focuses on five areas such as education and literacy, food and nutrition, shelter, sanitation and active citizenship.
HRD Minister releases UGC guide to student induction programme

Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian Cricketer, was inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame. He became the sixth Indian cricketer to join the list of international players. The former South African cricketer Allan Donald was also in the list. Tamil Nadu to get two new districts
19 July 2019 Current Affairs: Tamil Nadu to form two new district The total number of districts in the state will be raised to 35. Tenkasi District would be carved out of Tirunelveli and Chengalpet District would be established by splitting Kanchipuram district. Tirunelveli and Kanchipuram remain vast in area and splitting them would be beneficial for better administration. Revenue Minister R.B.Udhayakumar created a few more districts by splitting bigger revenue units is being considered. A new district with Kumbakonam as its headquarters are announced.

Sarabjot Singh won India’s ninth gold in ISSF Junior World Cup
The ISSF Junior World Cup, Sarabjot Singh scored 239.6 to bag the men’s 10m air pistol gold, country’s ninth yellow metal at the event. INS Sagardhwani starts on mission Sagar Maitri
20 July 2019 Current Affairs: Marine Acoustic Research Ship (MARS), INS Sagardhwan started its two-month-long second mission Sagar Maitri from Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala.
It flagged off by Southern Naval commander Vice Admiral A.K. Chawla and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chairman G. Satheesh Reddy. The main visit of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia would be initiating collaborative research programmes.
India to be free of Tuberculosis by 2025

Union Health Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministries of Defence, Railways and Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) to eliminate TB from India by 2025.
Hima Das won gold in the 200m event at a Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic
Assam’s Hima Das, the Indian Sprinter, won gold in the 200m event at a Tabor Athletics Meet in Czech Republic on 17 July. She clocked 23.25 seconds. This is her 4th win in 15 days. VK Vismaya won the silver and clocked 23.43 seconds. Muhammad Anas won gold in men’s 400m and clocked in 45.40 seconds. Tom Noah Nirmal came second and clocked 46.59 seconds. K S Jeevan came third in 46.60 seconds and M P Jabir came fourth and clocked 47.16 seconds.
