Meghalaya became the first Indian state to draft a water policy
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: Meghalaya became the first Indian state to draft a water policy to ensure water conservation, issues and protection of water resources in the State. The Meghalaya State Cabinet approved the draft on July 12, 2019. The approved policy intended to achieve sustainable development by Meghalaya state government.
Aim: The Water Policy, which was approved by the Meghalaya State government, aims to provide safe and hygienic water for various purposes like drinking, domestic, sanitation and livelihood development. The policy recognised water as a common pool resource for all residents of the state.
It is hoped that the Water conservation will improve health and livelihood and reduce water vulnerability among the people. Implementing the policy will assure good governance for present and future generations through integrated water resources management and environmental sustainability
Anshula Kant has been appointed as next MD and CFO of the World Bank Group
14 July 2019 Current Affairs: The World Bank Group announced that Anshula Kant, an Indian national, has been appointed as its next MD and CFO on 12 July. Anshula Kant is the first woman CFO of the Bank. She will be responsible for financial and risk management. She will be working with Kristalina Georgieva, the Bank’s CEO, to mobilise financial resources.
Kalraj Mishra appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Acharya Devvrat has been transferred to Gujarat
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: Senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra was appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh on July 15. He will replacing Acharya Devvrat. Devvrat has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Gujarat.
Former leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar has been appointed as the deputy chief minister of Goa
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: Former leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar has been appointed as the deputy chief minister of Goa. He sworn in as DCM on 15 July. He is among the four legislators inducted into the Goa cabinet.
The appointment came days after 10 Congress MLAs in Goa joined the BJP. Mr.Sawant reshuffled the Goa cabinet on 13 July. Three members of the ally, Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai, Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar, Rural Development Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar and Independent MLA and Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte, were dropped to accommodate the new members to the cabinate. The monsoon session of the Goa state Assembly began on 15 July.

AIIB provides $100 million to L&T Finance arm for wind and solar infrastructure projects
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) provide $100-million loan to L&T(Larsen & Toubro) Infrastructure Finance Company(LTIF) for wind and solar infrastructure projects. This is the first time AIIB is extending loan to a non-banking finance company(NBFC).
It is collaborated with AIIB to explore the international market for green finance. The project mainly help to increase the supply of renewable energy in India . It helps to reduce the carbon intensity by 30-35 percent of the 2005 levels by 2030 which was India’s commitment under the Paris agreement.
India set a target to install 175 Gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2022, of which a total of 80.04 GW of renewable energy capacity installed in the country till May 2019.
Kaushik Gangulys Bengali film Nagarkirtan bags 4 awards including Best Feature Film at SAARC film festival 2019
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: The 9th edition of the SAARC( South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) festival 2019 in Colombo, Srilanka. Bengali filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly’s film ‘Nagarkirtan’ won four awards (Best Director’, ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Original Score’) including ‘Best Feature Film’ at the festival.
The Best Actor award bagged to Riddhi Sen.
The Two other Indian films have won awards at the fest.
‘Na Bole Wo Haram’ bagged the ‘Best Short Film’ award directed by Nitish Patankar, while ‘Walking With the Wind’ received the Special Jury award directed by Praveen Morchhale.
Simona Halep won the Wimbledon Championship 2019 title
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: Simona Halep won the Wimbledon Championship 2019 title. She created Wimbledon history by becoming the first Romanian to win the Grand slam 2019 title. She secured 6-2, 6-2 and defeated seven-time champion Serena Williams.
Djokovic won Federer to win fifth Wimbledon title
Novak Djokovic won his fifth Wimbledon title He defeated Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12 in a match that lasted for more than four hours. The match to be decided in the fifth set. Federer and Djokovic won two sets each in the longest ever final. This is Djokovic’s 16th Grand Slam and 5th Wimbledon title. He is level with Bjorn Borg as a five-time Wimbledon winner.
Mexico wins CONCACAF Gold Cup final
14 July 2019 Current Affairs: Mexico defeated USA to claim their eighth CONCACAF Gold Cup title.
Jonathan Dos Santos scored the winning goal in 73rd min for Mexico in the thrilling final. The teams met five previous times in the Gold Cup final, but this year’s edition held additional value: The Americans had a chance to reestablish confidence in a program haunted by its failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
Mexico looked like the more dangerous team in the second half. They finally broke through in the 73rd minutes. Jonathan dos Santos scored off a back-heel pass from Raul Jimenez fountains of beer to fly upward in the pro-Mexico crowd. The Americans created scoring opportunities early one of the positive trends through the tournament.
Chandrayaan-2 launch called off after technical snag in rocket
15 July 2019 Current Affairs: ISRO Scientists a few days to assess the seriousness of the problem. The launch in the current window of opportunity is available only till Tuesday (July 16). The next launch date could be months later.
A technical snag detected in the GSLV-MkIII rocket, less than an hour ahead of the scheduled launch aborted the planned flight of Chandrayaan-2, India’s first attempt at landing a spacecraft on the moon. They indicated that it could take up to a few days to assess the seriousness of the problem.
