Mumbai Indians clinched the Indian Premier League 2019 title
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: Mumbai Indians (MI) on 12th May clinched the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 title. MI defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by one run on the last ball. With this, Mumbai Indians set the record for winning the most number of Indian Premier League titles. This became the first team to win the IPL title for 4 times.
Notably, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings in each of their four encounters in IPL 2019.

RBI proposed mobile app to aid the visually impaired to identify currency notes
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: The Reserve Bank of India proposes to come out with a mobile application to aid visually impaired persons in identifying Indian currency notes. At present, banknotes in the denominations of Rs.10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 2,000 are in circulation, besides Re 1 notes issued by the Government of India.
Intaglio printing based identification marks for helping the visually challenged in the identification of denomination of banknotes are present in notes of Rs.100 and above. The RBI has solicited bids from technology firms for developing the mobile application.
Around 80 lakh people are likely to benefit by this initiative of RBI.
Vedanta Limited and ONGC to drill 341 hydrocarbon wells in TN
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has granted the Terms of Reference (ToR) to Vedanta Ltd’s Cairn Oil & Gas, to carry out Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for drilling a total of 274 offshore and onshore oil and gas exploration wells in the Bay of Bengal, Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Villupuram and Puducherry. The approval of ToR begins the first step in the process.
The company is planning to invest a whopping Rs.13,538 crore in the project. In 2018, Vedanta was allotted two hydrocarbon blocks in Tamil Nadu as part of Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP)
Indian actress Dia Mirza and Alibaba Chief Jack Ma are among the new 17 UN advocates for SDGs
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed 17 new advocates to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include the Indian actress Dia Mirza and the Chief of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma. The newly appointed UN advocates are the 17 influential global figures. It is the responsibility of these advocates to raise awareness, inspire greater ambition and strive hard for the faster action on the SDGs, which were adopted by the world leaders on September 25, 2015.
UNEP Report states that India & China tops a list of nations for illegal sand mining

13 May 2019 Current Affairs: World’s first exclusive women’s cricket magazine “CRICZONE” released with Indian women’s cricket team vice captain Smriti Mandhana featured as the cover story.
The publisher of the magazine is Yash Lahoti
The magazine “CRICZONE” was launched on the sidelines of the inaugural women’s T20 challenge event which was attended by international cricketers like Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and overseas players like Danielle Wyatt and Sophie Davine.
The objective of this magazine is to empower young aspiring women cricketers to take the sport as a profession and able to make a sustainable living.
Boeing delivered 22 AH 64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters to the IAF
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: US aerospace major, Boeing, handed over 22 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters to the Indian Air Force (IAF) at the Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona in the U.S. The first batch of these helicopters are scheduled to be shipped to India by July 2019.
The IAF had signed a multi-billion dollar contract with the US government and Boeing Ltd in September 2015 for 22 Apache helicopters.
Novak Djokovic wins Madrid Open 2019 title
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: Novak Djokovic, the World No. 1 tennis player, won the Madrid Open 2019 title. He defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis player, and secured 6-3, 6-4. He equaled Rafael Nadal’s record of 33 ATP Masters 1000 titles.
It is also Djokovic’s 200th victory against a Top 10 opponent.
United Nations to hold Ocean Conference 2020 in Portugal
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decided to hold Ocean Conference 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal from June 2 to 6, 2020 with a theme of “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions.”
It will be co-hosted by the Governments of Portugal and Kenya.
The objective of this conference is to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) which stated as to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Sana Mir Becomes Highest Wicket-Taking Spinner In ODI

Pak. to get USD 6 billion for next 3 years to meet its foreign debt obligations
13 May 2019 Current Affairs: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has signed an agreement with Pakistan to loan $6 billion over the next three years to meet its foreign debt obligations. The deal comes after months of negotiations over what will be Pakistan’s 22nd bailout aimed at staving off a potential balance-of-payments crisis.
The program aims to support the authorities’ strategy for stronger and more balanced growth by reducing domestic and external imbalances, improving the business environment, strengthening institutions, increasing transparency, and protecting social spending.
