India Holds First Ever Artificial Limb Fitment Camp in Tanzania

12 July 2019 Current Affairs: The doctrine of Humanity, India offering to the world since long ago through ‘actions’.

The six-week-long Artificial Limb Fitment Camp in Tanzania which benefited over 500 differently abled Tanzanians. The camp was jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Jaipur Foot and held at Muhimbilli Orthopedic Institute, Dar es Salaam. The camp provided free of cost artificial limbs to over 500 differently abled Tanzanians by a 7-member technical team from Bhagvan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), Jaipur.

ICSI launches UDIN to improve corporate governance

Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) rolled out an initiative in the form of a Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN)  The main aim is to pursue a heightened sense of self-governance and strengthen the practicing side of company secretaries.  UDIN will provide ease of maintaining a register of attestation and certification services.  The ICSI functions under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.



Uttar Pradesh Govt sets target of $1 trillion economy in the next three years

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath exhorted traders and businessmen to contribute towards the state becoming a trillion dollar economy. UP Vyapari Kalyan Board (Traders’ Welfare Board) in Lucknow while referring to Modi’s aim of India becoming a $5 trillion economy urged the business community to rise up to the occasion and contribute wholeheartedly towards a 1$ trillion economy by 2024.

Chandigarh ranks best performing in the field of education

The ‘Performance Grading Index 2017-18’ is to measure these efforts. Chandigarh ranked best in the field of education and is followed by Kerala and Gujarat. Chandigarh is best among all the states. Arunachal Pradesh is the least performing state  It ranked 36th on the index. The states are Haryana (4), Tamil Nadu (5), Punjab (7), Rajasthan (8) and, Delhi (9)the lowest are Meghalaya (34), Nagaland (35) and Arunachal Pradesh (36).

Samsung join hands with to offer financial products

Kerala launches Non Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA)

13 July 2019 Current Affairs: The kerala State government has decided to form Non Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA), an Non-Resident Keralites (NRK) investment company which aims to channel investments from overseas Keralites for major infrastructure development in the state. The NRKs will hold 74 percent stake and the state government will hold the remaining 26 percent stake. The government focuses to utilise NRI investments for implementing various projects. Under NORKA, the company can set up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) or subsidiary company for the purpose. 

MN Rao appointed DG of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard

The central government appointed M Nageswar Rao, Additional Director of CBI as the Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard. He will continue to hold the post till superannuation in July 2020. He will replace former CBI Chief Alok Verma. The Supreme Court held Rao guilty of Contempt of Court for transferring the investigating officer heading the probe in Muzaffarpur shelter home case in violation of the orders of Apex Court. 


RPF launched Operation Thirst to crub the sale of unauthorized packaged drinking water

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Indian Railways has launched an all-India drive called Operation thirst. The operation aims to crub the sale of unauthorized packaged drinking water. In Delhi, under the drive, RPF clamped down on vendors selling unauthorized package drinking water between July 8 and July 9. Three such cases were found in the city. Under Operation thirst, more than 1,371 people were arrested and over 69,294 bottles were seized by RPF.

India and ASEAN Troika Trade Ministers Meeting held in New Delhi

India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Troika Trade Ministers Meeting  The meeting was held in New Delhi  The informal consultation on the ongoing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).  Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal, Acting Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Ms. Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Minister of Trade of Indonesia, Enggartiasto Lukita, Secretary General, ASEAN attended the meeting.

IAF to get Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAM)

The Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to adopt Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM), a new European visual range air to air missile, across its fighter fleet.  The first firing is expected by the end of 2019. This first firing would be the first over the wing launched missile in the IAF inventory. All missiles are fired from under the wing. Objective: IAF aims to expand its Su-30 fleet with a proposal to build 40 more jets under license at HAL’s Nashik facility.


Airtel Africa has been listed as the third-largest stock on the bourse by market value

Airtel Africa has been listed as the third-largest stock on the bourse by market value. On 9 June, Nigerian Stock Exchange reported that the Airtel Africa has a 1.36 trillion naira ($4.4 bn) flotation. Airtel Africa operates across 14 African countries. The listing comes after Airtel’s main rival, South Africa’s MTN, listed its Nigerian unit in Lagos in May in a $6.5 billion float.  South Africa’s MTN is in the second-largest stock on the bourse by market value.

Madhya Pradesh Govt announces cow welfare fund, hikes Haj committee grant

Madhya Pradesh government presented its maiden budget aiming to please various sections of society  Some of the Highlights of Madhya Pradesh Budget session They proposed to allocate ₹132 crore for the welfare of bovines and hiked grant to the state Wakf Board and Haj committee. The budget is presented by Finance Minister Tarun Bhanot They propose a three-fold hike in the honorarium for the priests working in the registered temples.

Reebok announced Katrina Kaif as the new brand ambassador

Fitness brand Reebok appointed Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif as its new brand ambassador in India. This will enhance Reebok’s commitment to be the best fitness brand in India. About Reebok Reebok is an English footwear and apparel company, subsidiary of German sports giant Adidas since 2005.

Walmart Labs acqui-hired 2 startups FloCare and BigTrade

13 July 2019 Current Affairs: Walmart Labs, the technology arm of the US retail giant acquire-hired health tech start-up FloCare and B2B trading platform BigTrade undisclosed amount. Walmart brought onboard the ​​teams of the two Bengaluru-based companies to help strengthen its customer technology and supply chain.

FloCare co-founded by former Google research scientist Gagan Goel and former InMobi employee Gaurav Gupta was funded by Accel Partners. The health tech firm is building products and technologies to realise the vision of home health care. The other company, BigTrade, was founded by former Infosys engineer Kiran L and former Yahoo tech lead Sunil Soni.
